Fungus on my cata
Default Fungus on my cata

Hi everyone. What's happening to.one of my catas' new growth? The pseudobulb is still plump, but I have nust taken two leaves away. They were lightly spotted and yellowish. 😧.
I do not know if it would be better to take yhis growth away to safe the other one. The roots are all right. The plant is mounted on a mould.
Thanks
Paola

What are your temperatures day/night? How do you water it? How often?

This time of year, Catasetums will be losing leaves - they go dormant in the winter. Sometimes there is a new growth (like yours) that tries to get going. If it keeps its leaves, you can water lightly near the edge where it is when you stop watering the main plant, but it also may not survive. No problem... It is doing what it naturally does. Once leaves are gone, stop watering. Don't start again until the new roots (and new growth) are about 10 cm or more. (It is really hard to not water when you first see that new growth... resist the tempation) The year-old roots are somewhat useful (roots older than that will be pretty much dead) but the new roots that come with the new growth are the most important - and once they start to develop you do not want to disturb them. Since the plant is mounted, you will probably not need to do anything. If you need to remount or do anything else to the plant, do it while it is dormant, before the new roots emerge.

Hi and thank you. I am not sure this is normal since it woke up last summer, the two new growths were fantastic, full green and straight but small. It is developing very slowly and I had made up my mind to get it inside to protect it by low temps even if at the moment we are experiencing a mild Autumn here in central Italy.the temps are 18°C at night dropping to 16° in the early morning but going up to 22/24 during the day. The fact is that the bulb of the baby shows a brownish colour I do not like at all and the two leaves made no resistance when I took them away
