33 Blooms on this baby! This was grown under COB lighting. First stab at catasetum and I think it came out alright. Smells like herbal lemon candy/medicine.

The inflorescence actually grow straight up on this one...I was worried the flowers might snap them as they were starting to lean even before they opened so staked just to be safe. Thanks for the kind words, all...really happy with these!

The sanguineum parent causes the erect spike.

That is a fantastic display of blooms, it looks like you nailed its culture requirements on your first try! Meanwhile, I'm looking at my third bloomless cycle in a row with my plant. Now sure what I'm doing wrong...

I didn't know that there were species with upright spiking habits, my impression was that they all made pendulous spikes. I'll have lerned something new!

I credit SVO with the great stock as well as the guidance from fellow members here on OB, especially, isurus. What are your conditions and size/# of bulbs on your plants?

My plant is also from SVO, via an import by German nursery. There's still a chance it will flower this season because of the Rebecca Northen parent. It's one of Fred's mini-Clowesetum crosses: Clo. Melana's Daughter (Cl. Rebecca Northen 'Grapefruit Pink' x Ctsm. Melana Davison 'Bombshell' )

I try to follow the SVO guidance and some OB advice: Bottom third of pot is filled with composted horse manure, then top dressed with slow release fert, and copiously watered and often left sitting in water. It's in a south window with direct sun from late morning to early evening. This year's bulb is about 1.5in wide and 7in tall, with 4 older bulbs behind it... It could be that it is only just reaching blooming size, even though it was sold as one year from blooming!

Right on...sounds like the cl. warczewitzii blooms in the fall and the cl. rosea in the winter so could definitely just be taking its time. Fingers crossed...I bet it puts on a nice show when it does bloom!
