I'm seeing lots of spikes, and some blooming action.

Catasetum Penang can be quite variable in color, depending on exactly which plants are used as parents. This one is quite fragrant. It is Ctsm. Susan Fuchis (3 generations removed from species, Ctsm. pileatum and Ctsm. expansum) crossed back to Ctsm. pileatum.

Catasetum Dragon's Teeth x Catasetum fimbriatum = Catasetum J and R Solar (yes, that's the name) When I looked it up in Orchidwiz, there were several examples with photos that were green... Mine is deep red. The difference? Mine was made with Ctsm. fimbriatum var. morrenianum, which is dark red while the typical one is mostly green. It's so dark that it is hard to photograph...so here are several attempts.

Thanks for sharing this. I lost 12 spikes to the damn lizards and 8 were on catesetum so this is a hugely needed dose for me!

So well grown!

DC- did you have those hanging up? Only the hangers are safe where I am. (knock, knock, knock on wood)

Yeah, I don’t want to derail but mine were all hanging. I hang them as soon as I see a spike. And I have cleared out quite a few.

One of the ones I lost two spike one was the monn millennium witchcraft....so I really appreciate the dark flowers, Roberta!

If slugs fly (I am sure they do... picked one off a hanging Sobralia about a week ago, had one devour all but one bud on a hanging Cattleya leopoldii last year before I found and dispatched it) lizards certainly do... Actually lizards are such good climbers don't know how one can stop them.

It is a multipronged approach of reducing their hiding spots, reducing the opportunity for them to get to the plants, deterring them and killing them with a pellet gun
