Back in Feb. from our show I bought from Ecuagenera a bareroot Stan.gibbosa x Stan.nigra x Hlt. wallisii. Should be interesting. Potted in wire basket lined with coconut husk and s/m. Lots of roots but no spikes yet-probably too young. Temps here 90-100 but hangs under tree and lots to drink...me too.

IOSPE says it's cool to hot growing, from wet montane forests.

When I unwrapped the plant it had several leaves about 10" / 25cm long. I found there were two plants wrapped together: One small, the other smaller. Pseudobulbs were about the size of two to three rice grains glued together. I put each plantlet into a 1 quart/liter S/H container with LECA. I kept a spray bottle with rain water nearby to spray the surface and plants several times a day. Ambient conditions were in the mid to upper 80s F / 26-30C by day and cooler at night. Humidity was supplied by an evaporative cooler.

The leaves slowly browned and died. However, the pseudobulbs remained green. IOSPE doesn't mention whether the species is deciduous. I kept watering and kept spraying the tops with water.

Here are photos of the two plants today.
