Default wobbly new growths on clowesias and cycnoches

This may be a silly question, but are new growths of clowesias and cycnoches supposed to be so wobbly...? I feel like I can easily break apart the growths like string cheese. I've been considering staking up all of them.

Staking is a good idea, but do it on the backbulbs.

So, I guess these are more delicate compared to more typical dens, cats, and oncs then. I thought the bulbs were rotting, being so loose. I don't see any external signs of rot but I was worried it had something to do with my culture.

The old bulbs are sturdy in the pot, but the connection between the new growth is concerning. I think I will go ahead an stake up all the new growths.

Just be sure to watch them because at some point the bulbs will get fat and might get choked from the staking.

It's odd that the new growths are so weak. How bright and how wet are you growing them?

I have a couple in sphagnum moss with styrofoam peanuts on the bottom and one in fine bark. They are getting higher end of cattleya level light... and some direct afternoon sun. I water them every 3-5 days and let a bit of the water collect in a saucer. A day after the saucer dries out, I water. The medium stays wet.

I may remove the saucer on a few of them and water accordingly.

Sounds like a pretty good plan of attack to me! Hopefully they perk up soon!
