Shoot, I noticed one of the lower leaves dropped off from one of my Catasetums and I immediately thought "well that's a bit early!" lol

That said, this group reacts to ambient conditions, so I suspect that your plant is simply getting ready for dormancy because of environmental cues and not because you did anything in particular. At your latitude, you'll get rapid changes in daylength and temperature compared to here in Texas (or California) and the plants will react accordingly.

Steve, I will not bring the plants in until probably beginning/mid October.
Do you think I could cut the leaves so it has a month of dormancy, and put it under lights during fall & winter?

I'm not sure if that would work to induce new growth or if the plant would just be confused.

Mine look about like I anticipated them looking in May or June... definitely not first part of September. But I know absolutely nada about these. What a fun learning experience it's been so far. And I'm really liking them. Hope they will end up liking me as well.

I would just keep watering it every so often until late December. It might spring back to life (works for many deciduous orchids or even orchids with a winter rest like Cattleyas) or it might stay dormant. Either way, I think it would not do well if it stayed dry from now until spring.

Well, I'm past excited now. Very first Catasetum I've EVER bloomed. These are such a fun plant. I need more.





And it's virtually impossible to take a picture of more than a couple of blooms at a time.

Four of the ones I got ARE from SVO... but went through my buddy David Bird first. When I whined about needing to try some, he gave me four out of a bunch he'd purchased to grow then resell later down the line. I'll try SVO if my whining doesn't work.
