Question on timing of new growth Male
Default Question on timing of new growth

I was at an orchid nursery a few days ago. I saw a few Catasetinae plants and bought an Ctsm osculatum x pileatum. I did see a few of the others that had not shown sign of new growth this season. All of the plants were very dehydrated. I also bought a Den Lemon Dance. Both plants needed a bit of love. The place was going out of business and I am guessing they're not doing much of anything other than trying to sell off.

My question is would the Ctsm bulbs that had not sprouted new growth still have a chance if watered to plump up the bulbs? Would it have been worth to offer $5 for one of these plants? Most had 3-4 bulbs, but were very dehydrated.

I would wonder whether they had not grown yet this year, or whether they had made new growth that already died.

Hmm, I didn't think to look. I saw some that were growing well and chose from those. This is more of an afterthought.

If they started growing for the new season then died, would they still be viable?

For $5?! Shoot, buy 'em all! Hit em with water and get the bulbs fattened up again. I bet you see new growth within a week or two.

Unfortunately, I stopped in on a road trip. Maybe they'll ship. They were going out of business. I might be able to talk them into a deal if I pay shipping as well.

Hmm...

What isurus said. At $5, how can you go wrong.
It's getting late to expect them to do much so if it were me, I'd do it just to see if I could get them to show me they wanted to live. Water them good for like a week then stop watering and see what happens. The backbulbs should plump up. If they do, you're probably going to be OK even if they don't develop big new growths and bloom this year.

I put in an order with them. I have 12 catasetinae coming and should be here Monday or Tuesday. I'm wondering what I'll get as they said it's their choice. We worked a deal out to $180 shipped. A little more than I wanted, but excited to see what I get.

Now that would be better than a Christmas present! Super cool surprise! Definitely let us know what they sent.

Tracking hasn't updated since the 24th. Saying it is still in transit to the next station. I hope they make it soon! They were originally supposed to be delivered on Monday.
