Repot new Catasetinae seedlings now?

I think I’ll maybe slide them out of the plastic and just put rocks around it to get max aeration inside a 4” clay pot

DC---I think I'd go dropping as is into a net pot vs. clay pot for this year. Let the air really get at that moss to help dry it as much as possible during the rainy season.
Next year you can repot and use your normal media in the clay pot.

i kind of split the baby (last name is Solomon so....fitting :ROFL

i pulled them (easy as pie: they were VERY dry and if you massage the outside all around the pot they kind of release themselves...then i surrounded them with huge perlite in small but tall clay pots and secured them in a plat tray so they don't tip over

my HOPE is that with the big volume below them and the perlite at least 1cm around all sides they will not be water logged ever


that said, i am keeping them in the patio (screened and roof; as opposed to the all the others who are in full Ma Nature ) so i will water them and that will be an adventure in restraint and luck

What I've been doing for most of my ctsms is potting them up, while leaving the root ball undisturbed, as much as possible. If the new growth is substantial by the time I've received them, I think I've preferred to leave it in the same pot, so that I don't run the risk of killing the roots.

For two seasons I have left mine in the 3" pots for the first year as Fred does and I always have great growth. I am sure moving them to a bigger pot works great too.

I love this alliance, they are hard to mess up. I just keep mine constantly wet and fertilized during growing season and they just explode.

Why the focus on drying them out between waterings?

Fred recommended letting them almost dry out between watering for the next month or so. I believe DC was worried his would be soaked 24/7 due to weather in his location.

Thanks Dorchid! I suspect the original 3" pots would dry out really quick in the Florida sun. They can sure drink once they get hot.

It is also important to not let them dry out, which is a challenge in small pots in warm weather during the growing season.

They certainly look a lot better repotted. Nice choices DC!

i think it is a good balance....my issue was about the sphagnum more than anything...i am BAD at sphag….

i think this will be a good situation bc they will be always humid and thus never really DRY and they will be mostly watered by me so i can try to be judicious about it.

once i see the roots entering the perlite i will probably move them out to the table with the rest of the genus-ish
