 Open the pot? Forgive my nosiness but are you doing surgery on those plastic slatted pots when you think a spike is emerging? Flori-Culture: Orchid & Specialty Growing Supplyhas wire baskets(pg.3) with openings for downward growing spikes that have worked for me very well. I just add hooks for hanging. Folks have even made their own from chicken wire or similar.

I put these in plastic baskets. When I see a spike emerging I get out my little diagonal cutters and cut away that part of the basket. If in a wire basket I can cut that too (I have had spikes get jammed on these as well), but plastic is a lot easier. As long as there's enough basket left to hold the plant (which hangs on tight) and a hanger, still good. |

Still waiting... here's what it looks like this morning. Slight separation on buds, but that started last eve... so I keep cheering it on... hope that it build up the hydrostaic pressure (ooomph) to pop open instead of fizzling.

Couple of close-ups of the center of the flower (hypochile/mesochile/epichile) These are thick and hard, look like cartilage.

A friend of mine managed to bloom one of these in his bathroom (with a skylight) Check out page 2 of this newsletter. https://www.fascinationoforchids.com...r/CGOS2006.pdf So it should be do-able for you! They don't need or want a lot of light. They do need to stay damp or they lose their leaves.
