Default Monnierara Millenium Magic ‘Witchcraft’ dilemma, can someone please help.

I’m hoping someone who is more experienced growing Catasetinae orchids can give me some advice. Now most of my catasetinae are getting going, still bone dry and I won’t be watering for another month or so. I received this plant and it was potted in damp sphagnum, I potted it on and withheld water but I’m wondering if that was the right decision. There are live roots but no active root tips as far as I can see. The new growth has lost 2 lower leaves and I can’t see any promising buds on the old bulb. There is definitely a new growth point at the base of the new growth but I’m unsure if this would become active this season. My dilemma is do I water it and try to keep the current growth going or continue to withhold water in the hopes of a new growth?

Can you attach a higher resolution picture? It's hard to make out much.

However, from what I can see, the plant looks pretty battered. It's possible all the roots you're seeing are last year's dead roots.

It's hard to see the condition of the pseudobulb that is the source of the new growth. Since it had some moisture before ("potted in damp sphagnum") it is certainly not going to stall if you give it a tiny drink , assuming the older bulb is shriveling. It may not have enough energy to support the new growth, and a little water may help things along. I would keep the moisture away from the base of the new growth.

Nope there are some of last years roots still attached but the majority are coming from the new growth, will try to attach a higher resolution pic, thanks for the help.

If all those roots are from the new growth, they are plenty long enough to want water. What is your reasoning for waiting?

I agree. IF those are from the new growth, why aren't you watering? You said you recently received it... perhaps the person you received it from has Ctsm further along than yours. Just because yours aren't ready to water doesn't mean this one waits.
