I have about a dozen cycnoches/mormodes species and hybrids. Half have already started to grow. My most prolific plant has two new growths over 6"...seems early for this kind of growth but I'm by no means a cycnoches expert.

Is anyone else already seeing growth?

Looked at mine today. About half are showing growth but none have roots long enough to start watering.

It is painful for me to see them just sit there in dust-dry medium for so long.<sigh>

My last two hold outs (Morm hookeri and an unknown seedling I picked up while in Panama) started showing growth this week. All my others (Cycnoches and Catasetums) are all growing at breakneck speed. Ive even got a tenebrosum that has one growth about a foot tall already with two more growths rapidly catching up. Im actually hoping for two separate growth spurts this season for all my Catasetinae. Ill let you know this fall!!

My Cyc. warscewiczii bloomed this February, MUCH later than normal. It now has a new growth about 1 inch tall. No roots yet. We'll see what it does this year.

I was amazed a few days ago seeing mine about 6 inches of new growth, seemed a bit early this year but its sweet to see it, hate the winter neglect syndrome .

Am an amateur with this genre, when would be the best time to repot?

I don't think it is suggested but I had to report some of the new growers. There wasn't any room in the post, none. With some of them I just did the 'ole pot-in-pot repot; I broke some holes in the original pot and then put it in a bigger pot. This has worked for me in the past with these plants.

Usually you repot when the roots are about an inch or so long. If they get much longer when you repot, theres a good chance they will break. If your roots are already too long, just wait till next year or (like Mateo said) just put the current pot into a larger one and put in some new media to fill the gap.
