Whoops! I don't grow it, but it looks to me like it would much rather be in a wood basket with media. Might be a good time to wash off all the excess fertilizer and move?

For sure. Gonna switch it out after this spike does its thing. It’s been flushed a couple times, so hopefully got most of the fert out.

Haven’t got it reported but it’s doing well. 2 nice new growths coming in (right-most) and I just noticed a third poking out from under the smaller of the 2 new bulbs.

Think of these as semi-aquatic aerial bog plants that should never get even close to dry during warm weather. Almost all problems with them are due to underwatering.

I think it’s just hard for most people to keep up with their watering. I figure if my Stans, Cory, and Catasetums already get hammered with rain and watered every day in the summer while in their pots and baskets, managing a mount might just be ridiculously frustrating. I do know one person who grows a few Catasetums mounted but she has a line from her sprinkler system for each one that goes off three times a day. Says they don’t even come close to drying out.

Almost all my macrantha spikes have crawled over the media (somewhat loose mixed sphagnum and fir bark) and over the side. The photo doesn't show the basket very well, but you can see that it's not coming through the bottom like a stanhopea.

Unfortunately this plant has been pouting with the move to my new greenhouse this year, so no blooms this summer. Who'd have thought?

Thumbs up

Good4U...that's lovely. I've been agonizing over a small potted plant I received last yr. Pbulbs look good but after losing its leaves a new one appeared but that's it so far. Read they like acid fert. and have been doing so. Slotted plastic pot with loose s/m also. Stans do well for me but any help from you with this Cory. will be appreciated.

Nice to see that my advice is being heeded even after several years ...

To whom it may concern , please note ::
------------------------

(a) Stanhopea plants send their flower spikes downward , Coryanthes plants do not.

(b) Stanhopea plants and Coryanthes plants should better NOT be mounted.

Many thanks for that advice, Manfred! My Coryanthes has been thriving due to it! As you might have read I nuked it but it has put out 3 strong new growths since with a new one popping up off the back side in the last couple days.
