Repot catasetum to allow room for new growth? Male

I'd say waiting a week or two wouldn't hurt, and would encourage additional and more robust root growth

I’m figuring the same. May even let it go longer to let the new growth get going strong and considering that last season’s pbulb is super plump.

That's absolutely right dorchid. That's the exact thing a lot of us growers have seen, and is exactly what we're talking about. The catasetum is going to get the water into it anyway ------ either through those roots, or through the new ones it is growing.

As long as the orchid is getting good (recommended) growing temperatures, humidity, light etc, and the roots prevented from running too low on oxygen, then it will be good to go ....... or good to grow.

Would you say those last season roots are still functional? Either way, I’ll likely hold off on watering again for at least 4 weeks.

Absolutely - they are functional. Otherwise shriveled/shrivelled bulbs wouldn't be able to 'magically' revert back to being plump if any pre-existing roots are all out of action when supplied with a little bit of water (added to the media).

Whether pre-existing roots stay alive or not during true dormancy depends on growing conditions/environment - and what the orchid grower does ----- eg. allows them to dry out completely for a long enough amount of time (in which case, all the old pre-existing roots might/could die).

The pot is a tad big but at least the 2 new growths should have room to fill out.

Looks good! You’ll get two growing seasons in that pot.

FYI- I’ve found some of the roots on my plants are still alive and can be useful, at least early in the new growing season. I don’t know how long those old roots stay viable as the new roots mature.

This ctsm. (Dapper Dots BJ) is doing well...it put on quite a bit of size with no watering. I started watering in the last week of June and noticed flower spike nubs starting to poke through around July 1 and 2.
