They are pretty different. Your luck can distinguish and won’t follow you to this genus

I am not going to be able to credit the original speaker but....

Your ‘wrong’ is still better than most people’s ‘right’

For what it is worth, I was getting ready to euthanize this Cycnoches barthiorum... when it was going dormant, the main pseudobulb was clearly on its way out, there was a keiki for which I didn't have much hope. But look what I found... the main pseudobulb (to the right) is completely dead, and had parted company with any roots that it had. But the keiki is green, firm, and looks like it is getting ready to push roots. So, I just repotted it so that the live pseudobulb (which had been growing in air) will have medium to grow into. That pseudobulb has been living on absolutely nothing for several months, since the one that it was attached to is at the crunchy stage. If it's green, there's hope...

That "dead one" looks great. I don't count these things out until they stay dead through a season. As for "late"... yours are waking up early in the Florida sun. I have a few early ones, a few that never did go completely dormant, and most still sitting there. Which is good, because when they get leafy and big before the nights warm up where I live, they have to stay crammed in the greenhouse. Another month at least. The later ones can move outside as soon as they start taking up space. You don't have that problem...

Looks good!
