A Kool Log might keep the plant too cool for a lot of people, but maybe not in your climate.
Bill Thoms, who has lots of awards on Bulbos, writes he never mounts them because they grow so much better in low baskets of moss, watered daily. He wasn't able to keep up with the watering on mounts.

I'm trying to resist mounting some of my bulbos, i'd say a good 2/3 are already up on plaques, but I just have to learn to embrace the fact that they refuse to stay in the potting media. I tend to get all freaked out when the pseudobulbs and roots are flying around and drying out
