Training Bulbophyllum leads

I have a Bulbophyllum bicolor that is producing two new leads. One is fine, but one seems to be growing down into the media. Has anyone had success training Bulbophyllum leads? If so, what was your technique?

You have to put something hard and immovable in their way, then they will grow around it. Be careful! They can break off.

Possibly putting a stick, rock or piece of needle point mesh under it, gently scoop it up. I know people espalier trees, but they have woody trunks. putting "obstacles" in front of it sometimes makes a plant instinctively try to avoid it.
