Bulbophyllum moniliforme finally

I have wanted this little Bulbophyllum for quite awhile, though not much information as to keeping it happy long term. Seems it can be a problem child for some.

I've searched forums for growing information and apparently the biggest issue is keeping it too wet, causing it to rot. It is not the easiest orchid to find and several I've been tempted to buy have been fairly small plants.

I found this one at Louisiana Orchid Connection and decided to buy! It arrived today, a bit thirsty but very cute. I hope it will grow and bloom and be a happy orchid. It has a few tiny leaves on some of the bulbs.

It is mounted on a hardwood plaque, no moss at all. There are strips of black plastic material under the plant, I've never had this material before. It is not very attractive on the mount and I may trim it up a bit.

Anyone growing this little one successfully? I'll add a picture, hope it isn't sideways.

I have no idea how to grow it but, hopefully, someone else grows this adorable little Bulbo. I cannot wait to see some posts of blooms!

Thank you Leafmite, it sure is cute. Sometimes you find a plant that you just have to try. I think I'll be fine with it, just don't want to keep it wet. I asked John about the black material and he said it is a agricultural cloth to help the tiny roots grab on.

Some people grow this in a window but I think I'll stick with my countertop greenhouse/terrarium. It likes high humidity and intermediate temps, light. The blooms are tiny, can't wait! It's a interesting plant for sure. I've seen several posts of growers successfully keeping it.

I've had mine for a few years now. To be honest with you it doesn't do too much really. it's mounted on a stick (from andy's) and had thin forest mulch... had some living moss growing around it but was choking bulbs out so I removed some of it to keep things open as well...

I've had it in low light and it was fine, but always kinda near the fan in my grow tanks... once I put it in a more open spot near the lights it grows faster... but really that's relative it barely grows. For as tiny as it is it may form a bulb over a month or so... it'll form a near pin size leaf as it grows than promptly lose it.

It's bloomed for me once over this whole time so really don't know why then... think it was shadier then and more moist... I've been watering it more lately since it's warmer but no flower. but it's not known to flower all that much.

not sure what that plastic is on yours...
