Bulbophyllum mirum stripes on leaves?
Default Bulbophyllum mirum stripes on leaves?

This is supposed to be Bulbo mirum. I keep it in warm orchidarium and only today realized it is a cold grower. It however made many new leaves, but all new ones have nice red stripes compare to old green ones. Is it too much light or heat? Or just fine? How do you keep yours pls?

I don't have experience with this - just wanted to say that it's quite interesting - my first thought would be perhaps from high light ? - hopefully some other members will be able to help ...

I think this is some tipe of fungal growth or maybe even rust. Could even be change in growing conditions. And how much light and heat us it getting?

This species is from the Section Plumata, they grow in places like Borneo from elevations 1000 meters and up. So generally it is a cooler growing bulbophyllum. Because this species grows in the evergreen tree canopy. It get lots of shade. Maybe 70% shade

Red leaves generally indicate lots of light. It's not fungus.

It's a fairly low light plant according to OrchidWiz. But the Baker's description also says the leaves are spotted with violet when young. So I would say this is normal, and maybe more pronounced if you are using a lot of light. I expect it will go away as the leaves age.

I know this is a bit old, but just joined and seeing this thread... the stripes are completely normal... I got a variety from andy's that's from java a believe with the exact same striping on new leaves mainly that age to an olive/grey green. I grow it outdoors here so it drops to low 40's upper 30's without problems, but it grows in heat well also, so don't think temps are too much a problem. I use to grow this one years ago when I lived on east coast in a vivarium and it flowered and grew well in those conditions.
