Default Bulbophyllum pardalotum

This guy is finally in bloom after sending several spikes out for weeks. Sadly, the flowers only open in the very early AM and close by 7am already so I only got crappy cell pictures. Here is the best one though:

Nice flowers....its hard to take photos inside that enclosure....I guess you need more light and a zoom camera

Yes it sadly is. I have a nice DSLR with a 100mm macro lens, the flowers are just turned the wrong way. The orchid seems to like the terrarium though. Lot's of spikes, and new rhizomes at every end with new roots. This is/was the second bulbophyllum that has bloomed in that tank in the last 2 months. Hopefully more to come.

Hobbes your pardolatum is a typical plant. The blooms are open at night and close when it gets light. I have a huge ball of the pardo growing on a tree fern ball and it has consumed the ball. Last year I tried putting a black plastic bag over it to try to keep the blooms open so it could go to judging. No the blooms were already closed the next morning.

I have to congratulate you on getting that good a picture of the bloom.

Newer picture with the better camera. Still at a less-than-ideal angle but at least a little nicer.

And one more with new spikes:

Also, I finally seem to have enough posts to be able to use photobucket ... YAY

Nice flowers! I suspect that mine is the same or similar species, just opened this early morning but closed when I was back home this evening.
