Miniature bulbophyllum from Borneo
Default Miniature bulbophyllum from Borneo

Hello everyone,

This is my first post after being a lurker for some time. I've been enjoying all the info on this board and am hoping you guys can help me out.

I am planning to build a warm borneo biotope terrarium for orchids and geosesarma crabs. As such I have been interested in keeping orchid species from borneo who are warm humid growing.

I was wondering if anyone had any good sources where I can find info on miniature borneo bulbos? Or if anyone can recommend good species please let me know.

If this is in the wrong section, mods please move!

Thank you.
Simon

This entire book is about Bulbophyllum in Borneo.

Amazon.com: Orchids of Borneo Volume 2: Bulbophyllum (9780950487694): J Vermeulen: Books

Thank you very much. I was looking at that book but wasn't sure if it was a good source of information or just pictures.

You might also get in touch with Windy Hill Gardens in Missouri. She grows quite a few different Bulbos and I think would be able to give you some good information.

I have Bulb. hirundinis which is a miniature species from Taiwan & Vietnam.

So far, I haven't bloomed it, but it is growing vigorously in a cork mount inside a glass globe.

Simon, it is a very good book. There is a full page of illustration for each species, then another page for taxonomic information and distribution. A little bit of habitat/ecology information is included. The illustrations (botanical drawings) are very good and include whole plants and detailed drawing of floral parts. Then at the end there are color photos of the flowers for each species. 100 species are described.

I wish there are more ecological info, but most taxonomists don't seem to care about how they live too much (and they probably don't know).
