Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis first flowers 2013 Male
Default Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis first time flowering 2013

I had this bulb. phalaenopsis for more than 3 years. I bought it from ebay as a bare root seedling. The flowering leave has a bulb of approximately 3" in diameter. The longest leave is around 37 inches long and 5" wide. I grow this plant in intermediate culture. The temperature range during summer is around 90-100 degrees and 65-70 degrees during winter. This plant was exposed into a bright sun light (50% shade). However, I kept this plant a little drier during winter. Since I live here in Maryland, my orchid collection is in drier winter condition.

These are the flowering time sequence from the first picture to the last:

picture no. 1: 9/20/2013
picture no. 2: 9/29/2013
picture no. 3: 10/3/2013
picture no. 4: 10/5/2013
picture no. 5: 10/8/2013
last picture : 10/10/2013

Total flower count: there are 24 flowers

Absolutely amazing! I love this Bulbo, as all the others, but this giganticus has just no space at my balcony, so thanks for posting the pics!

Very nice! I flowered mine for the first time this summer too. The "hairs" surprised me that they were that thick and fleshy.

Hi Tondomanila!
Healty wonderful plant! And good smelling too

How much time does it take from the appearing of the flower gem to complete flowering?
I suppose it's more or less the same for all the other giant macrobulbon species (except the 2 much more little).

It started to flower around September 20, 2013 and the full bloom on October 10, 2013. As far as can say, everything is depend on the temperature. Thanks for the comments.
