Not sure if you are growing inside or outside, I have all orchids outside year round and I do mist either every day or every 2nd day, and than once a week soak in the bucket, if this helps. It all depends also on the weather, if it is rainy than it does not need as much as when the sun is burning hot the whole day, and than fall-winter is also less.

Mine I have been misting early morning, my phal's until they are green, and then soak them log and all about every 2-3 days, but I live in Texas and we are still having really hot dry weather.

I mist every morning when outside in the summer after feeling the substrate to determine that it isn't already wet with dew/rain. Sometimes, in the heat, I'll mist again in the early afternoon. I want them dry by night.

I also soak them periodically. I should have more rigor, but it is pretty much when I feel like it.

If one is very dry, remember that the water from misting won't really penetrate into the moss. In this case, I will mist heavily while holding the mount horizontally so that the misting water soaks in.

In the winter when indoors, it is again a daily misting and a pretty regular weekly soak.

I find this daily ritual very satisfying and it keeps me from over caring for mu potted orchids!

That's true. I find myself fussing over the plants in winter and overdoing it. They always do better with a little benign neglect.

There is no one "normal" practice and thus no one way to tell you how you should water. Practices used depend largely upon your growing conditions as well as the plant involved. Some plants require more moisture than others. Are you mounting bare root on the mount or are you including a pad of moss or other moisture retentive material between the plant and the mount and/or over the roots of the plant? Is the plant in sun or shade? Is the plant in a terrarium, kitchen window, or outdoors? What is the RH like (arid, moderate, or high)? What are the temps like? How much air movement is usually present?

High RH, shady conditions, little air movement, cooler temps, and having a moisture retentive material on the mount will all contribute to it staying moist longer.

Arid conditions, high air movement, warm to hot temps (particularly in sunny conditions) will cause the mount to dry out faster ... even more so if the plant is mounted bare on the mount.

Furthermore, what works during one part of the year may not work during other times of the year. This is particularly true if growing outdoors.

Under some conditions, misting will be fine. Under others, soaking will be necessary. In other situations, a combination of misting and soaking may be best. You will have to experiment to determine just what you need to do. You may even find that you need to mist twice daily ... once in the morning and once in the evening to "do right" by a particular mounted plant.

Personally, I have very few mounts. My conditions simply don't lend themselves well to mounted plants, unfortunately. Most of mine are mini mini's growing in a terr. Most get sprayed down 2-3X per week, but a few get soaked once or twice a week. (Sometimes soaked once a week and a light spraying once a week.)

Simply put, no one can give you a definitive answer because there isn't one to give.

thank you guys and I do understand you always have to tweak your plan due to your surrounding and growing environment but i thank you for your input so it gives me ideas to work with and a broader range of options to help me out thanks again

Garden hose. Once or twice per day.

Yup. It's a survival of the fittest in my greenhouse. All plants should be warned to hang on tight or face the consequences.

(Ok, I do have one of these Gardena sprayers that I can regulate the pressure with so it's not full flushing, but still...it's definitely rougher than a soak in a bucket)
