I get bored with the same flowers open for months and months on end. Standard hybrid Phals are of no interest to me for this reason. Some of the species are different in that I'm a species snob, and it is nice to have some of them around for colour and blooms when I hit gaps in cattleya flowering, and I love having plants that bloom 2-3x a year. But i want to see new spikes growing and change and development and the whole life cycle just fascinates me, so nonblooming plants are not a detractor for me. But having the same ten blooms open on a spike for a year? Nah, I'd rather watch roots grow.
