Bulb. sumatranum - my latest acquisition!
Here is my latest orchid acquisition! I actually don't have it yet, but my sister does. She lives in Calgary (650 km. from me) and went to pick up some bark from Paramount for me as they are moving soon now and are just about out of bark. I'm in charge of getting supplies for our society's resource table. Not sure what we will do once they are gone and we are out of this latest supply
Anyways I couldn't have her go to a huge orchid place and not get a plant So this is what I got, Bulbophylum sumatranum. They had one left in bloom although I will likely have to wait till next year to see a bloom in person! My sister took pics for me!

Beautiful bloom...quite big compared to the proportions of the plant...
Sonya, you better grow bulbos...your grow zone is perfect for them...

I wish I could see the real thing, but it won't be delivered to me till July. Paramount did say they were good size blooms on compact plants and good form and colour.

How beautiful!! I fell in love with it during the latest plant project, but didn't order one, since the first and last Bulbo I ever owned didn't live very long.
Where is Paramount moving to?

Thanks all. This caught my eye when we were voting for the latest spring project plants. And then there has been one or two posted on here since.
Paramount is moving in the fall to the West coast-Vancouver Island. They are 650 km. from us now in Alberta but luckily we always attended the Calgary Orchid show as a society and my sister lives there. So they were a prime source for large bags of bark, perlite, the moss and a few other things for our society. Shipping from Vanc. Island won't be possible as the rates are high because ferries are needed to get to the mainland. That drives the price up for shipping. So we are left high and dry without a good outlet for orchid potting supplies that would be affordable. We do have a local gardening and farm supply store that has been getting a bit more in and I have spoken to the guy in charge or ordering, so we may have to pursue that more thoroughly! Paramount has been trying to arrange this move for close to 2 years now, but it is finally actually happening.

I didn't know. I would have ask if you could pick-up a bag of fine bark for me as well. Oh well nice bulbo though.

So it sounds like the shipping costs for orchids are going to be higher as well. Doesn't sound like a good move, getting even further away from their clients and making things more difficult/expensive.

Sorry eggshells. This came up very fast and my sister wanted to go right away. They were almost out of medium bark so I didn't want to delay her. However I think their supply of fine bark is still available and they aren't completely moving till fall. Bryon told me they could do business till around Aug. Maybe you could pay them for 1 and get them to hold it till someone is going to Calgary? My sister has a small Honda and we didn't even know if she could fit what I ordered in her car, but between front and back seats and trunk she managed! I likely owe her big time now! If I hear of another chance I will try and get you a bag.
