Has anyone bought from Carolina Orchids? They have a long list of interesting looking Bulbo plants. Just wondering if any of you have had experience ordering from them?

Thanks

I've ordered from them before. Good plants, in my experience. They have a wide variety of harder-to-find plants. They're a small operation, so don't get impatient if they take a little while to get back to you after you send them an email.

We've purchased several bulbo's from Carolina Orchids plus many other orchids. You receive great plants and they will always respond to your inquiries/questions. The bulbs are almost specimen size and bloomed great.

Thanks for your responses. I did order some Bulbos from him. I hope they arrive soon, I am so anxious to see them.

Yes, he does have a lot of interesting plants on his web site, but I also asked about a couple others, and he had both of them.

I will need to e-mail him to ask if he has my check. I mailed it on Thursday.

It would be nice if he took credit cards.

Yes, I bought a Lycaste macrobulbon from them a couple of years ago. Very healthy plant with a few backbulbs and a couple of leads. Still going strong.

smweaver. He did respond rather quickly. He returned my call the next day and was very helpful in making my selection. When they arrive, I will post pictures. I wonder if he is waiting for my check to clear the bank before he sends my plants.

He did make me chuckle to myself. He refered to me as 'Honey' a couple of times.

After living alone for almost 10 years, my Grand-daughter saw me in a resturant with a man. She quickly called the family to tell them, "Grandma has a boyfriend". In the eyes of a teenager, a 65 year old Grandma is too old for a boyfriend. Her Mother asked her to describe what he was like. Her only response was "He must be from the south because he called me "Honey".

Four months later I married him. He died of lung cancer after only 3 years of marriage. He was not from the south.......He was from Michigan.

I have purchased many plants from Tom and Shan Nasser at Carolina Orchids. They have always been healthy, great plants. Both Tom and Shan are extremely knowledgable and bluntly honest. Usually I drive to Ft. Mill (not a short trip) and pick up the plants I'm buying. It is not the least bit unusual for Tom to say "You don't want that, get this one."

I love rummaging through the greenhouses which Tom will allow you to do as long as you wish. Great people, great plants. Be prepared, Tom is very Southern and probably will call you "honey" (if a woman) or possibly "jackass" if you are a man and act stupid. You can't go wrong with these folks.

Default Christmas in September

Thanks for the thumbs up on Carolina Orchids. It gave me enough courage to order from them.

It was like Christmas in September. My order arrived and in wonderful condition. Tom called me on Tue to tell me he shipped my plants Monday night FedX ground. Wed. morning the box arrived. Every thing look great except he forgot to put my fascinator VN in the box. I sent an e-mail and he said he will send the forgotten one later.

This is my haul: (except for the fascinator)

blumi
biflorum VN
frostii VN
(hybrid) rothschildianym X frostii - -New name 'CrownPoint'
gracillium
medusea 'UNCC' (I don't know what the UNCC means)
rothschildianum 'CrownPoint'
vaginatum 'CrownPoint'
orientale
yasnea 'Sonoma'

I was surprised at the size of the plants, and they were packed as if they were going to war.

Congrats on the nice collection of bulbos. I have always been more than pleased with anything we have gotten from them.

Just a guess here but "UNCC" could be University of North Carolina Charlotte. Carolina Orchids is just a stones throw from Charlotte NC.
