Go ahead! B. masdevalliaceum is not a fussy plant at all in my experience. You can use it as an experiment plant by cutting some of the bulbs off. I could even start a few plants just from a one bulb division. Its just a pain to bloom as it needs high light and a lot of space to bloom well.
the two species blumei and masdevalliaceum have recently been reclassified as maxillare. the reason is because the diffrences are so small the need to be seen under a magnifying glass, the lip is shorter on blumei, so they thought to make it one species
I don't know why I was thinking all or nothing. Of course I can break off a piece and experiment! I think I will go with a pot. The parent pot has green moss on the top so that tells me a lot about water and humidity and some about light (If it is wet enough moss grows in full sun). Gene Crocker told me to grow it like a Phal.
Well, whatever it is called, I have 3 pots of it. Only one of the pots has ever flowered and this is what I have today. Lots of great growth but nary a flower spike!!!! I grow most of my Bulbos hanging as you can see in the picture as well as some to the left side on slabs. The hanging plants are in bark/CHC. My greatest problem is keeping up the humidity so I water ALL THE TIME! And still have issues. I'd just like to get some flowers for a change
Try getting a couple of humidifiers you get from the pharmacist. It might help. If you end up doing it let me know how it works out.
