Bulbophyllum Sp. (From Papua New Guinea)
hi all,
hope your orchids have been growing great for you.
This new species recently bloomed, all the seller told me was that it was a new species from Papua New Guinea and that it looked like a giant Bulbophyllum restrepia as shown in the link below.
IOSPE PHOTOS
and no i don't think it looks anything like it, but what i can say is that it's big! approximately 6 inches - total length.
Yet again, another intriguing flower apart from the usual ''Lepidum'' Shape. The lip has silvery white hairs that reflect light - interesting. Probably to attract more pollinators i guess? Grown under 80% shade, no direct sunlight and watered twice daily. Actually, it's grown right next to my Bulbophyllum Hsinying Grand-arfa. Has alien-like antennae like prongs sticking out - im guessing to mimic an insect's real antennae.
Any ID Clues?

Yes i do think so, that over and evolution the plant has reduced them to such tiny proportions that the only use i could think of is to look like an insect's antenna. Yet if you look closely, it's spotted! interesting.

That is really cool! Watered twice a day? So it likes water like a paph or Phrag?

Thanks, i hope it does bloom again. Well i dont own any paphs or phrag but it gets the same amount as a Phalaenopsis Bellina. I guess a safe guide would be moist but not soggy and drenched.

Hi,
well... i'm still new and would need someone to teach me how to cross pollenate a bulbophyllum and to bring up seedlings, but as for cuttings - sure i'll divide it once the bulbs reaches double digits.
