Thanks - yes very useful. It was far too bright I can see that. I have left it in the same position but the blinds are drawn which cuts down the light quite alot and the two new leaves are growing quite strongly. I'll try and photograph it and post it tomorrow with luck - failing that Wednesday. It's my watering day tomorrow so a very busy day - what with all the household chores as well

This is the plant I'm talking about. Now I have reduced the light level and given it more humidity it's sprouted the two new leaves that are doing well. There is a long way to go but one day maybe there will be flowers

I hate to burst your bubble but that is not bulbophyllum thiurum,in fact it doesn't look like a bulbophyllum at all. It appears to be more like an intergeneric hybrid. If it is a hybrid perhaps it just prefers cooler temps and that is why the leaves drop, or it could have a deciduous species in it's lineage

Also if you bought that from a nursery and they had it labeled bulbophyllum thiurum I would stop shopping there. Who ever you got that from is clearly an unreliable source and I hope you didn't pay much for that plant as thiurum is fairly expensive in the US, around 50$-60$.

Oh no!! I can't remember where I bought it but have a strong feeling it was from someone who came to talk to our local society. He often buys in plants from elsewhere. It was labelled with a picture of B.thirium on it with lovely long yellow flowers! Well if it ever flowers we may have a clue as to what it is! Thanks anyway even if it is bade news. As it is doing much better now - I'll just keep on as I am and see what happens.l I do have another B.thirium - a smaller one and that looks quite different.

Well good luck with whatever it turns out to be, I can post a picture of my thiurum so you can see what the plant looks like, hopefully the smaller plant you have labeled as thiurum is actually that.

B. thaiorum and B. thiurum are two different species. B. thaiorum is a somewhat wide spread variable species from Vietnam and Thailand while thiurum is from a very isolated location within the Endau Rompin National Park in Malaysia. The plants look very different as well. Thaiorum is mostly purple with dark purple leaves and green on the underside and thiurum is all green. When the new leaves are developing on thiurum they are a copper color that slowly turns to green.

You know it never dawned on me that you guys were talking about a different species. hahahahaaa! This might be the only time I can remember where 1 plant was confused for two others in one thread.
