First off I think I should clarify something. The photos of the Bulbos without flowers are not B. dearii. They are divisions I made recently of B Frank Smith... I think some of you got confused. Both of these are up for trade or sale along with Cirr. Elizabeth Ann Buckleberry and Bulb. masdevallia.

Here is an updated picture of my B. dearii. It is interesting to me the way the older flower (right) has wrapped its "arms" around the lip and the dorsal has become more erect....

Hi Doc, I just picked up a dearii at one of our local shows, and I'm a bit curious about the culture. What sort of light levels are you giving it and also water? Thanks in advance!!!

I give mine more light than what most. It is on a top shelf getting strong light. I have a 70% shade cloth over the greenhouse from late May (September) until early September (May). This shelf gets up to 90F (32C) plus on sunny days. I water almost daily during the hot summer and just to keep them damp, otherwise. I feed about twice a week with general fertilizer. I grow in chips and CHC just because I don't seem to have much luck with sphag. I have one Bulbo that I was given as a replacement for another that is mounted. It isn't in the best of shape but I water it 3 or 4 times a day hoping for some new roots and then I will remount and clean it up. Keep in mind this is working for me so far. You'll have to establish a plan that will work for you and your specific circumstances. One other thing that I have learned the hard way is that you must me EXTREMELY careful when watering when new growth emerges from the base of the pseudo bulb because it can rot almost before your very eyes!!!!!!
