Default Bulb. purpureorhachis

This photo was taken at an orchid show.
Bulb. purpureorhachis is rare and to be an expensive orchid here in Taiwan.

That's a neat one, pheli. I got to see one of these last summer when a member of my local OS brought it to show and tell, and it definitely piqued my interest in section Megaclinium. Megacliniums aren't super hard to find in the US (though purpureorhachis is still one of the rarer ones) but they usually do cost more than other Bulbophyllums! Of course, you probably have easier access to some of the very lovely Taiwanese Cirrhopetaloides that are almost impossible to find here in the US (at least for me so far...).

There are about twenty native bulbophyllum species here in Taiwan. Most of them are from highlands, which makes them not easy plants to grow well in summer.
And maybe due to this reason, the bulbophyllums are still abundant in the wild.

I'm glad the native species are still abundant in Taiwan. I've seen a few pictures of native orchids blooming in the wild there; I'd love to visit Taiwan someday!

Here is a Taiwanese webpage about native orchids here.
You can click the latin name of the orchid, and there are photos of it.

I wish my purpureo would show a sign of life, had it a few months and no roots or anything started

The website belongs to my friend, Wang.
He collects a lot of species orchids, including those native to Taiwan.
In recent years, he also breeds some orchid hybrids.

very cool. Looks as if the flowers are borne on a spathe. Thanks for sharing.
