Bulb. medusae
I bought this knowing that it was a stinker but I just couldn't resist - it's sooooo cooool!!!
This is our first blooming and there's another bud that hasn't opened yet. I thought I'd lost the poor thing a few times but I guess we found it's happy place out in the greenhouse.
Enjoy (so-to-speak)...

It reminds me of fireworks at first glance. Pretty cool.

I like the feathery look on this chid. Been thinking of getting a Bulb. medusae. I know bulbos are stinky but what does this one smell like & how are you growing it, mounted or potted and watering requirements??

Hi Lorraine, not all bulbos are stinky - as a matter of fact some are actually as pleasant as cattleyas - this one however is somewhat unpleasant - smells like sweaty socks. I've been growing this one in my greenhouse - medium light/low light. It is potted in a 4" clay pot with a medium that is chopped sphag, shredded tree fern and coconut chunks. It went into spike earlier this summer but blasted because we had a sprinkler snafu in the greenhouse. Hope this helps

very cool!
I just bought one of these last month at the Tampa show and it was in flower at the time so I didn't get to enjoy the full bloom of the smell! LOL

Very nice. I would consider this plant to be the most interesting of all of the Bulbophyllums. A very large plant is a sight to behold. I saw one recently that had forty flowers.

Sweaty socks, huh? Well, I'd be willing to take the smell for those neat flowers.
Nice plant.

Dana, my medusae just finished one flower and has 3 more to open but it couldn't detect any odor/fragrance. I was somewhat concerned because I know some Bulbophyllum smell awful!

Dana it's beautiful !!!!!I guess it's medusae season !!! Mine is on it's second spike. First time blooming for me. I got this plant from Carmelas in February and it gave me 2 spikes. Lorraine the Ft. Lauderdale show is near and Carmela bring them to the show.
