Default Bulbophyllum phaleanopsis

I have had this guy for about 8 years now and this is the first time I have flowered it.
It is said to smell like a herd of 100 dead elephants, and has the unfortunate appearance of car crash victim with severe head trauma
The bulbs are about the size of an orange, the leaves are about 2 1/2 feet long and the panicle of flowers is about 11 inches across
A truly ugly but spectacular orchid

Tinky, Tinky, Tinky ... They are so peculiar, none other of it's kind. Is 8 years unusal for this type of bulbo to bloom. Saw some at the orchid show in Sarasota and the vendor told me they had brought in none other than 13 and all were gone within 2 hours. bunch of stinkies goin' on

I first purchased this plant as a fairly small seedling (well small for these things anyway) it took a couple of years to acclimatize its self to my conditions and then it took off, doubling in size almost every year.

Same thing down here, when ever these things become avaliable they sell like hot cakes you have to be quick or you'll miss out.

To be fair not yet, but we have not had a really hot day here for a couple of weeks(our summer) since its been open. Today is hotter though and I'm taking it to a society meeting tonight, and we are going to be spending 1 hour there and 1 hour back in a very small car

With the genus name 'phalaenopsis' I was thinking it must be one of the prettier bulbos....boy was I mistaken! Interesting for sure! I guess the 'phalaenopsis' name is referring to the shape of the leaves, not the flowers.
