Bulbophyllum plumatum - Is this what I hope it is?
I've had this plant for about a year and now there is definitely something happening! I'm just not exactly sure what it is yet, but I'm thinking "flower." If anyone can look at this picture and confirm my suspicions (or burst my bubble) it would be very much appreciated.
Im not too sure what you're talking about, I see what looks like a new growth, not a flower stalk in that pic. Maybe a closer pic would help
Oh well, thanks for bursting my bubble.
Just kidding. New growth is better than nothing. I wasn't sure because I've never seen this spike before so I don't know what they look like.
Peace
Hi, i think the bulbophyllum that you have got could be Bulbophyllum jacobsonii that looks very similar to plumatum. Jacobsonii has a more pointed leaf tip and tends to be short and rounded. Plumatum is more of longish round leaf tip. Plumatum has more red on new shoots.
The tag says plumatum, but I appreciate the info.
I was under the impression that there had been some confusion about whether they are in fact different species. Or something to the effect that plumatum had formerly been called by many jacobsonii but had subsequently been separated into it's own. Anyway, it's all very confusing to me so I'll just go with what Andy told me in person when I bought it and what the tag says until proven wrong. Maybe when it flowers...
