Unhappy First Bulbo Fatality

Have had this for about a year. Was growing really nicely all along and then....a black spot, first on one of the leafs, then traveled down to the bulbs. I tried catching the next spotting before it reached the bulbs, cutting out and treating each leaf first (and the entire plant) but within a week, another black spot on another leaf, and so on...each leaf, one by one....turned black.

I'm assuming it's viral. Don't know if I could have done anything more or if it was destined to croak once the first black spot appeared. Any suggestions for the next time this happens? From my experience, once this happens, the attack always wins out, but maybe not?

So sorry to hear about your Bulbo, Sandy. Poor little guy. It doesn't sound to me so much like a viral infection. Sounds more like a really quick spreading bacterial or fungal rot.

Sorry about your fatality but I agree with Yvan, viruses usually don't claim their victims in that manner.

To pick yourself up, go shopping for something to replace it.

Yeah, I was thinking probably bacterial also, Yvan. I think you're right. Have you ever had success with stopping this kind of attack from spreading?

brooke, what a coincidence, I thought I should do some shopping also. I've already soaked the basket in bleach and it needs filling up now! I'm taking your advice, thanks!

RIP little bulbo buddy.

Sorry to hear you lost one. But I agree with the others, it does sound more fungal or bacterial than viral.

I agree with Brooke.... time to go orchid shopping!

I haven't exactly experienced what you described in terms of something spreading from the leaf down. But I have had a pseudobulb start to rot. I just snipped it off from the rhizome, and thankfully, before the rot had traveled.
