Your bulbos are very nice. Mine seem to be a bit stingy with the blooms. Testing me I suppose. Marilyn

Nice Wilson! I am envious I do not know the species but it looks very much like a plant I have (struggling to survive ) labelled as Bulbophyllum flamulum which I believe is a synonym for Bulbophyllum plumatum which may have been transferred to the genus Rhytionanthus plumatum. Do you have or know of Rhytionanthus/Bulbophyllum plumatum/flamulum? If so how do they compare to yours. Perhaps IMHO other posters to this thread might like to do a Google search for those names and check it out as a learning exercise to see what other Bulbophyllum species look like.

Wilson, I took my own suggestion and did a Google search for Bulbophyllum flamulum and got no hits so I did a IPNI (cPanel®) search which lists all the registered names of species and there are no listings for Bulbophyllum flamulum. So, like many of us have had the misfortune of buying a wrongly labelled plant, I now believe that my plant is wrongly lablled and I will have to wait for it to flower again (if it ever does) to try and identify it.

Wilson & Mike
There is a bulbophyllum flammuliferum ( spelling ? ) but this plant is a different species altogether. The only names for B.plumatum are ( to my knowledge ) B.plumatum; B.habrotinum & B.jacobsonii. I believe some people say they are different species whilst others believe them to be a synonym. There is a yellow flowered species called Bulb.thirum ( used to be called B.plumatum "yellow" )

BTW Wilson the B.sp aureum looks like B.mearnsii or B.carunculatum

Thanks Taipan. I did think when I flowered my plant that the name (Bulbophyllum flamulum) was wrong and that it was Bulbophyllum plumatum which I knew had as a synonym Bulbophyllum jacobsonii but I had not heard of Bulbophyllum habrotinum. I agree that one of the yellow orchids that Wilson showed looked like Bulbophyllum carunculatum but it lacked the blackish colouring of the lip. Possibly a yellow form of the species. It certainly is in the same section as Bulbophyllum carunculatum. One of the others that he showed a photo of looked like a hybrid to me (possibly a Bulbophyllum sumatrana or facetum hybrid with Bulbophyllum lobbii). I cannot remember which photo it was but if you look you will recognise the one that I am talking about. Have a look and tell us what you think. Thanks

Hello Mike
I checked to photo's & I think the one you are referring to might be labelled as B.palawanense. I checked the name on IPNI but does not come up. Yes it is definatly in the B.lobbii "complex" & probably a species in it's own right - dont think it's a hybrid though. I have heard the name "palawanense" thrown around. He probably bought it as a "cultivated plant" - read between the lines
