Bulbophyllum medusae
First bloom for me, for this one. I took a series of shots over the course of two weeks. This is Bulbophyllum medusae in bud and then in bloom. Kinda weird (borderline creepy, actually) to watch the thing unfurling and untangling itself from inside the sheath! It's very alien-looking. Odd smell, too; not unpleasant exactly, like a lot of other Bulbos, but... different.

I've got loads of Bulbos but, not this one and this is one I've been wanting more than the rest. I don't know what's taking me so long Thanks for posting the development through these pics...this is great. The next orchid I buy is the medusae. I want it 'now' since seeing yours!
Beautiful plant. Enjoy!

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that some Canadian seller will get it, or figure out the hoops to jump threw to bring it over the border from Michigan.
