Let me (Ross) jump in, Ross
and welcome you. The second picture is certainly damage caused by mites. Could be they are no longer in the area. This damage doesn't go away. Another tool in your arsenal should be pure Neem Oil, available in your local Home Depot, sold as Schultz brand Garden Safe Fungicide 3. It's a teal colored spray bottle. This will work on most pests of orchids if you drench the leaves (all surfaces) and try to drench to roots, to the best you can. It's great for garden pests as well so I typically buy 5-6 bottles at a time! Spray your orchids every other week for 3 times. Then whenever you see something suspect, do it again. Doesn't affect the orchids, but gets the bugs on contact as well as certain other diseases such as mildew.
