I won't give my advise as I am not a bulbo grower but I will provide photos
Bulbophyllum lepidum - (aka Cirrhopetalum flabellovernis)

Thanks D. I see very little similarity between lepidum and my plant. Mine is more yellow than pink. I guess I'm confused Mike. What should Daisy Chain look like, and how is my plant any different than Sandy's?

Finally....
11 days from spike to bloom. I wait 2 & 1/2 months for my winter Phals but these 11 days took longer, I swear!

Terri, I don't see the difference between ours

Terri, you think that you are confused! I think David is confirming what I am thinking. Your photos look more pink than Sandy's and the sepals look shorter, stubbier and blunter than Sandy's whose look longer thinner and more pointed. Did you ever see Henny's picture of Bulbophyllum makoyanum which I asked him to post? Well I have never seen the other parent of Dc but if you look at the makoyanum parent you will see that the flowers are more spaced and more pointed and yellowish. I suggest that you join clubBulbo (Tindomul did ) by going to yahoogroups.com and signing in. When you have joined send a message and attach a JPEG photo of your flowers and ask the members what they think. Look forward to seeing your message on clubBulbo

Mike, what picture where on the B. makoyanum? I have one of those too, would love to see. You sound like you know your Bulbos, cool! I'm fairly new to them but have been thoroughly enjoying their rambling ways. The 2 that I can hardly wait to spike are, B. Fantasia and B. trichocephalum.

irphrog, I'm so glad you posted yours here! Congrats on your beautiful bloom! It's great getting to see yours and Terri's and comparing similarites and differences, now that Mike has explained what to look for! They're all gorgeous.

Sandy, I mainly only grow species. If you gave me a hybrid I would accept it and grow it with pleasure because some body had given it to me but I do not go out and buy hybrids. I have about 40 different Bulbophyllum species (never bother to count how many orchids I have). If you want some nice ones may I suggest you try and get Bulbophyllums echinolabium (the biggest Bulbo), carunculatum and lobbii and Cirrhopetalum robustum (syn.graveolens). I have found these easy to grow and the flowers are nice and showy. When I was judging at a show once Henny exhibited a Bulbophyllum (I tried without success to buy a divison from him without success ). His plant was wrongly labelled and I told (only after he wouldnot sell me a division ) him that it was infact Bulbophyllum makoyanum. I suggested that he post it on the clubBulbo list to confirm, which he did and Jum Cootes (author of that very nice and very useful book "Orchids of the Philippines") told Henny the same thing. Then when we have had this discussion on this list about what is Bulbophyllum lepidum (somebody had theirs labelled as Bulbophyllum makoyanum) I asked Henny to join this group and post his picture of Bulbophyllum makoyanum to show what the true makoyanum looks like. So if you go back on Bulbophyllum Alliance you may find the thread and may be able to see Henny's photos. If you cannot find it I will ask Henny to repost it when I see him again (probably Monday week). Incidentally Henny kindly donated me a division of his makoyanum about 3 months later

Sandy the thread I referred you to earlier was posted by Myrrh and Frankincense (hope I spelt that correctly! ) on 16th May 2008. If you go to that thread you will see that somebody (?M&F) posted two thumbnails. IMHO the one on the left may be DC and the one on the right is lepidum. Tell me what you think. I cannot find Henny's photo which was posted in the gallery under "RECENT PHOTOS" but if you do a Google search for Haru's page (it is something like edit.ne.jp/~khosaka/html but add the 3 X W's before) and for the University of Vienna (it is something like univie.ac.at/HBV/index and again add the 3 X W's before) you will see some nice pictures of Bulbophyllums. Enjoy
