Steve...Yeah...Wow...This is what IOSPE has for B. patens:

That looks mighty different to me. Will be really curious about how this unfolds...

Thanks for all the compliments!
I bought mine from Louis Del Favero in Tampa.
Here is another photo of the Taiwanese site that IOSPE used above...
Butterfly & Orchids Photo Gallery in Thailand - Bulbophyllum patens - สิงโตŕ¸ŕą‰ŕ¸˛ŕ¸ˇŕ¸›ŕ¸ąŕąŕ¸”ง/Bulbophyllum patens
All I know is that is the name that was on the tag and it is also what Louis said when I asked what it was before I saw the tag ???!!
Maybe I'll need to research this one a little further.
If it was a bigger plant, I'd surely break a piece off for you, but it's only got a few growths on it right now...

Laura,
Was yours in the process of opening further or does it still look the same as when you took the picture?

Laura,
Your plant is definitely not Bulbophyllum patens, It looks more like Bulbophyllum macranthum. When I go home over the weekend I will try and post a thumbnail of my Bulbophyllum patens so that you can see the difference.
Check it out on the web using both "patens" and "macranthum".

It's so annoying when a plant is mis-tagged but look at the synonyms on IOSPE

Synonyms Bulbophyllum cochinchinense Gagn. 1950; Bulbophyllum patens Auct. no King ex Hkr. Gagn. 1951; Bulbophyllum purpureum Náves in F.M.Blanco 1880; Carparomorchis macrantha (Lindl.) M.A.Clem. & D.L.Jones 2002; Phyllorchis macrantha (Lindl.) Kuntze; *Sarcopodium macranthum Lindley 1850-1; Sarcopodium purpureum Rchb.f 1859;

I was thinking the same thing Sue.
Mine does look more like the photos of macranthum, but not exactly like that one either ??!
I did notice thet macranthum was listed as patens no King (whatever that means) and that it was found earlier than the patens listed now...

I just want him to have a name

Thanks Ivan. I think we'll change his name to macranthum then...
I also didn't realize that I was posting the photo upside down... The piece that it is growing on has looped back around so I presumed that it should be the other way.
I surely do learn something new everyday!
Thanks all for the kind words and the help in getting him named properly!
