Default Bulbophyllum grandiflorum v. aureum ‘Shining Fuji’

I'm a returning member who was out of touch for years (as in about 13). Over the past couple of years, I've been getting back into orchids.

Recently, I ordered several orchids, including two Bulbophyllums. One is Bulbophyllum grandiflorum v. aureum ‘Shining Fuji’. I've been looking for more detailed care information without a lot of luck. I know that this one likes it warm (although the parent [I]Bulb. aureum[I] does not like it as warm, apparently); I know that the Bulbophyllums like a lot of moisture. Does anyone have any additional information about care?

Also, I've read that [I]Bulb. grandiflorum[I] smells foul. I'm wondering whether this hybrid will as well. I'm also wondering what size blooms to expect, as [I]Bulb. aureum[I] is described as a "mini".

I'll post about the second one in a separate thread.

This one is definitely Bulb. grandiflorum ... the variety or form is "aureum", meaning yellow (where the typical form has parts that are reddish-brown). So it isn't Bulb aureum at all. Bulb. grandiflorum is also known as Bulb burfordiense but grandiflorum is the currently accepted name. Yup, it's one of the stinky ones. But huge, beautiful flower. Not a hybrid, it's the species. The cultivar wasn't awarded, so the cultivar name 'Shining Fuji' doesn't have official standing, the grower clearly thought that it was good enough to recognize with a cultivar name.

It does like warm and wet.

You might want to sit back with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, and listen to this talk by Bill Thoms that was Zoomed for a San Francisco Orchid Society meeting a couple of years ago (one the most knowledgeable experts on the genus in the US) . the full video is long, but it includes the rest of the San Francisco Orchid Society meeting, you can skip or fast-forward through the parts you're not interested in. But there's some good info. (I had to "brute force" the link to get it to show up at all, but if you click on it you'll get it)

The video was very helpful indeed! I realized as Bill was talking that the Bulb. grandiflorum I had received had been mistreated in the way it was potted vertically. I was wanting to repot it to better survive in my home conditions, anyway, and Bill explained exactly how. It is now set up to grow horizontally rather than vertically. It had also dried out too much during shipping.

It actually came with two inflorescences just beginning on two different bulbs. It will be interesting to watch these develop.
