Bulbophyllum rothschildianum new growth
My Bulbophyllum rothschildianum 'Red Chimney' is showing some new growth. This looks to be a flower spike, correct?

Can't tell... could be. Soon enough, the plant will tell you! Not sure, but the moss looks a little dry in the photo. Bulbophyllums do like to stay very wet.

I saw that this morning and snapped the pic before I watered. I keep it damp

I thought it looked to be a spike. It sure has come on quickly. It wasn’t there yesterday and it’s even longer now than this morning when I snapped the pic. It’s frustrating that no matter what my pics always rotate. |

I definitely will! I’m curious to see how this will turn out. From my understanding the B. rothchildianum flowers are short lived, correct? Will the spike produce more than one flower or is the spike spent after it flowers? |

I would guess you've got about 2 weeks till your flowers open. The spike will have multiple flowers, I think they should last about a week, and then that will be it until you get a new growth to mature. I have not seen them bloom more than once from one bulb.

So this is the spike after 8 days. Do most people spike these once they get longer? I’ve seen people do it both ways.
