Bulb. violaceolabellum Male
Default Bulb. violaceolabellum

The species comes from south China. In cultivation, it is an easy species to grow but seems seldom bloom. The little flower is 0.5" wide. Unlike most bulb. species, it is odorless.

That's a really cool one! And one I haven't heard of before. Of course, I like the ones that have odors; the ones where the odors don't jump out at you, where you don't smell them until you stick your nose into the flower. Then I get people to smell them and watch their faces crinkle.

Yeah, so I'm a little sick. Usually they don't need any prompting to smell them. They see the orchid has a flower and ask if it has a scent and smell it. They don't ask if it's a pleasant scent. Then they say "Why didn't you warn me?" I just smile and say "you just asked if it had a scent. Not all orchids have pleasant scents."
