Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis. Mount or basket?
I finally got a nice example of this plant and I am having a tough time finding first hand experience. It seems like mounting is the way to go but I was also thinking about the good old cedar basket as well. Any advice on how to set this guy up?
I’ll probably just go with a nice branch and orient it vertically if I don’t get any suggestions or advice against.
Thanks

Mounted her upside down on a cedar plank.
I used a few strips of 3D air fabric below the plant and a wad of sphag over the roots.
Pics tomorrow

This is one of those that I just love the look of the plant and flowers but probably will never acquire due to the aroma. Goodluck DC!

i will also have to keep it mounted very high as my pups will surely be curious about the smell

Pete wants a taste test! Good for you getting it mounted. I have only one Bulbo and I’m still working on keeping it alive. It really didn’t like my transfer to SH, and had no idea when transferring that I couldn’t pick a worse time. It’s finally starting to put out new growths after a year. Perhaps I should find the name and educate myself. Where’s the smack my head emoji?

So I have a secret for bulbophyllums....
The coir lined hanging baskets at Home Depot. $9.49
I tear the top of the coir off so it is about a three inch deep bowl and I add some chopped sphag and a little chunky bark
That’s it. They love the coir mat and the sphag add enough moisture that they crave. Plus you never have to repot you can just add a bit more coir to the basket as they will grow up down and wherever they damn well please lol

DC - neat trick! the problem is I can't find the coir-lined basket on the Home Depot website. what are some key words to use? honestly I use their website just to check whether they have it in store but I don't even know whether their website actually reflects their in-store stock...
