Hanging Phal question regarding air roots
Default Hanging Phal question regarding air roots

I got a large hanging Phal fron lowes. I am a beginner and trying my best with orchids. I hung inside by west facing window and flowers dropped. Not sure if natural
Progression or unhappy plant. I moved outside hanging from tree and cut flower spike once all flowers dropped. The orchid had no medium aroun it in plastic basket, so I’ve added some moss/bark/charcoal mixture. There are some dead roots, but many healthy looking that are green when watered. It has air roots who’s tips were drying up, but now 3 of them have shiny, green, smooth growths at tip. Can anyone tell me what these are? Is it just a normal process of the aerial root or could I propagate?

Unless I’m mistaken, that’s a Vanda not a Phal. It looks healthy to me, but I don’t have experience with these. I think they like to grow pretty much bare root with a good daily drenching/soaking of their roots. Giving some information about where in the country you’re growing it will help others advise you too.

it is a vanda it does not look bad it may need a bit more water. it depends on your humidity. you can soak it for a hour with enough time to dry out before night see how it goes.

Use the search bar in the upper right hand corner to find Vanda care.

Those green root tips are natural growth - happy roots.
