Upside down phaleonopsis leaves
Default Upside down phaleonopsis leaves

Hello all,
I was given a dying orchid, a couple of months ago, to revive, It seemed to be recovering well, producing large new leaves and roots, but while watering today, I noticed that the top leave is completely upside down, not twisted, upsidedown from the stem. What is going wrong? My other phaleonopsis and catleyas are very happy with the potting medium and sun position.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Congratulations. It may be related to where the light is coming from. And sometimes they just do this.

I have a rescue Phal from the Lowe's Death Rack that was doing this...I used a bamboo skewer diagonally from the medium to the stake on the flower spike to gently pull it back to the other side of the growing point, and now the plant is making a new leaf at a normal angle.

I have had new leaves do this too when trying to follow the light. If the leaf is still flexible, I loosely tie it flat to the leaf below until it firms up in the “proper” position. I think a lot of these types of issues stem from us wanting to grow a plant upright that was designed to hang off the side of a tree/branch.
