Cattleya with color distortion at the edges of the petals
One of my seedlings, the BLC. Lawless Zawberflotte Palmer Apricot- Orange w / Red Lip, flowered with a bit of distorted red color on the edge of the petals. My concern is that it is a virus, I do not know if this can be normal in this hybrid. I would appreciate someone helping me. Greetings.
It's partial peloria, a very common trait in modern Cattleya alliance breeding. It's a (usually genetic) condition where the petals take on qualities of the lip (or vice versa).
Thank you very much, I feel more calm, I was afraid even to ask, because the plant is very nice. I have another of these, that will bloom within a month or so, hopefully it will be better.
Also, expression of peloric traits is to some extent dependant upon temperature during bud development. Thus, it can be more or less, depending upon season & temperature.
