Smile Orchid pics to go with various orchid questions

ok, so I am very excited, two new roots, and... as flower spike!!!!

...same plant, but the leaf is cracking!! Does anyone know if it will get worse? is there anything I should do?

... I have no question about this... but there are 2 spikes on my miltoniopsis!!!

This is a new shoot on one of my phaphs. If you look to the right of the new growth, is that a dormant shoot, or is it going to grow another growths this season along with the other one?

This is the odontocidium that I purchased with NO live roots. It has a guarantee in case it doesn't pull through... thats why the flowers are still on . Umm the plant is growing new roots, it has been over the past month. The picture of the newest pseudobuld shows that it has stopped using the pseudobulbs for nutrients and is now using its roots. Does it look healthy? The flowers have been on for 4+ weeks, and the plant seems to be getting better.
Thanks for your insight!!

Congrats on your new growths! Everything looks great.
About your question on the cracked leaf....I don't know much about that. About the paph, I don't know much on that either. I have one and was told it was a fall bloomer, so mine is about where yours is and I'm just waiting for that one. I'm bumping this up to the top in hopes someone will see it and have some solid answers for you!

Phal leaf cracking can occur from mechanical damage (from an outside source), but can also happen if the plant is growing rapidly in a relatively low-humidity environment. It is an aesthetic issue only, so don't worry about it.

Paphs actually grow new plants via a rhizome, although it is usually so short, it looks like one is coming from the base of the other as if it was a basal keiki. Individuals can live separately, but the "colony" will grow bigger, better, faster if you leave them together.

Ray- I started the crack, I bumped it on the ledge of my orchid bench, but it is slowly getting bigger. I just don't want it to split the leaf in half. I think I'm being paranoid haha.

But on my phaph, do you think this plant will give me two new growths this season? In the picture, there is the obvious large one, but to the right of that there is this tiny thing that isnt growing. Is it going to grow this season, or is it "dormant"?

I'll just add my comment for what it's worth. Paphs can add several growths a season, not necessarily at same time. It's pretty common for some types to start new fans even when the previous ones are not fully mature. This can be a good thing. It usually indicates a probability of multiple blossoms when the fans mature and the plant is ready. It also points to good culture. Following Ray's earlier comment, this is why it is a good idea to keep the mass of fans together rather than divide. One day, it may become so large you pretty much have to divide, but don't rush things. Paphs look great with multiple flowers. Just my

thaks for the tip ross

I recently transplanted this plant from a 4" to a 5" pot- the roots weren't completely pot- bound, but at the same time, when I changed the bark and placed it back into the 4"pot, the plant was too high up out of the pot. Is the 5" pot ok then?
Thanks

They make a special Paph pot that is tall in relation to it's width, just for that reason. I think you are OK going that size. I prefer not to let mine get totally pot-bound. In fact I read somewhere that most Paphs like to be moved on annually. I will hunt around for where I bought my pots.

I wanted to add my and say that I think your odontocidium looks really healthy! The pseudobulbs are nice and plump and if it's also growing new roots thats a really good sign. I find that (almost) anytime you have new roots growing things are pretty much in the clear. It doesn't look like the flowers are stressing it any so I think you're doing great!

Thanks so much! I think I got the problem fixed before any problems started showing up! The plant was in spike, looked really healthy, and that was why I bought it, despite the fact that it was being sold in a home depot! Thanks again for your input! its very encouraging
