Phalaenopsis: interesting facts
Default Phalaenopsis: interesting facts

In some species of Phalaenopsis the flowers turn green after pollination the petals wilt and fall off to cut down metabolic consumption , some species produce chloroplasts so that they perform the function of leaves.
Another interesting fact is that Phals produce Phenylpropanoid enzymes during acclimatisation at different levels of photon flux.
Phenylpropanoids are derived from amino acids phenylalanine and Tyrosine.
Phenylpropanoids protect the plants from UV rays, and defend against infections.
A passing mention about Phenylalanine, it is part of group 9 of Essential Amino acids , cannot be manufactured endogenously by the human beings but has to be exogenously supplemented

Ravi... you may want to put these type of posts in the Advanced board instead of Beginner. Those who would understand would view and perhaps comment.

Speaking only for myself, I can grow and bloom an orchid. But I have no clue of what this post says or means. Nor can I pronounce most of the words. Way above my head.

No offense intended. Just a thought.

Yes...but...the seed pods always remain green. Well at least until ripe. Infection repellent?
