Self watering pots/ planters

Is self watering pot a game changer in Orchid cultivation? If so, the concerns of potted media getting bone dry are allayed and the choice / selection of media in a given orchid under the prevailing environment can be reoriented.Since the plant container is buddied with the bottom reservoir there will be more retention of moisture available for the plant.
The next concern is fertilising the plant ;looks feasible to fill the liquid fertiliser in the desired concentrations/ dosages in a 5 or 10 ml syringe (used in clinical use) and point the nozzle with out the needle and inject the content in the general area of the root ball.
