Improvisation self watering pots
Most of the online sites sell SW pots which have an inner pot mostly non transparent ,a handicap to lose touch with the root health of the plant.
I tried out an inner transparent hydroponic pot which is usually used for container cultivation with the usual wall and bottom vents , made two holes at the bottom with a heated nail to pull through the vick and sat the pot in a transparent outer pot of a slightly larger dia .The inner pot potted the usual way with LECA and Perlite and the outer pot the usual reservoir.
Done this way can watch the water level with out a sophisticated gauge at the same monitor the root health of the plant.
The advantage is in case the hydration isn’t satisfactory abandon the SW idea convert the inner pot to container cultivation with out disturbing the plant
